Notification of electrical work

In Tasmania, certain electrical work is classified as “Notifiable Electrical Work” which requires a Certificate of Electrical Compliance (CEC) to be provided to TechSafe Australia within three (3) days of energising the work.

A full description of what work is “Notifiable” can be found in the Occupational Licensing (Classification of Electrical Work) Code of Practice 2018. Like-for-like replacements and repairs to an electrical installation or equipment are generally not required to be notified.

CEC books can be obtained free of charge from either Service Tasmania or the TechSafe Australia office in Tasmania.

These books each have 25 pages in triplicate, the white copy is for the customer, the blue copy must be provided to TechSafe Australia, and the green copy is to stay in your book for your records.

For high voltage and hazardous area electrical work, permission to energise the work must be obtained from TechSafe Australia. In most instances, this would require an electrical inspector to attend to the site and inspect the work prior to providing permission. Please contact TechSafe Australia to arrange this permission.

The drop box for CECs can be found below:

  • Henty House, 1 Civic Square, Launceston (drop box is at the rear entrance of the building in the laneway, near the sliding doors) or the ground floor concierge at Henty House during business hours
  • TechSafe, unit 1/2 Jannah Court, Mornington

Alternatively you can submit CECs via:
